a bit about us & our business:

The Globe is a small, family run, independent pub in the heart of Newbury, West Berkshire. Don’t let the new paint fool you. The face lift may look fancy, but there’s nothing pretentious about us. We’re just a family trying to save one pub at a time… and having a laugh along the way.

We’re a tight-knit team who have each other’s backs and actually give a $h!+. We give and receive feedback with an open-mind and speak up when we have something to say. role and responsibilities:

All team members are expected to be flexible in their approach when at work (tasks, hours, and responsibilities), assisting in both food and drink service as required. This role will include the usual suspects like pulling a pint, making a latte, delivering food, cleaning up broken glass – you get the point. Additional specific duties also include:

  • to own the bar space – looking after it, keeping it clean and well-stocked – always.

  • to always make customers feel acknowledged, welcomed, and at home from the second they arrive to the moment they leave, looking after them like they’re family.

  • to consistently maintain, to a high standard, the hygiene and appearance of the bar and public areas.

  • to inadvertently flatter people by implementing the age verification policy, as per training.

  • to handle all payments in a diligent and responsible manner.

  • to stay on the right side of the law by observing the appropriate statutory regulations with regard Health & Safety, Licensing laws & preventing the use of drugs on the premises

  • to show a commitment to learning and development, demonstrating what you’ve been taught along the way.

    • NB: we love a bit of training, so all team members do have a responsibility to identify any training which they believe would benefit themselves/another team member/the business. For all full-time staff, we’ll work together to build a training and development plan to get you to where you want to go.

qualifications and education requirements:

It’s not always about what you know, sometimes it’s just about who you are. While experience is great, we all have to start somewhere, so don’t fret if you’ve never pulled a pint before, we’ll teach you all of that (so fluency in English is a must). Keep in mind that before we can give you your start date, you will need to complete the following e-learning modules (don’t worry, we’ll foot the bill):

  • Age Verification; Allergen Awareness; Award for Licensed Premises Staff; Food Safety, Level 2; Perfect Pint

preferred skills/bonus points:

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Experience in a similar, fast-paced, demanding environment.

  • A knowledge of wines, spirits, beers, cask ales, coffee and/or dogs.

  • Experience, and interest, in cellar management and dispensing of cask ales.

  • Experience, and interest, in cocktail making and innovation.

  • Experience in dealing with difficult customers and implementing a Challenge 25 policy.

  • Certified First Aider
